Optical Genome Mapping

See the genome as it really is

Optical Genome Mapping (OGM) is a next-generation structural variation analysis technology that enables ultra-high-resolution visualization of long DNA molecules across the entire genome. Powered by the Bionano platform, OGM bridges the gap between traditional cytogenetics and sequencing by detecting large and complex genomic rearrangements that are often missed by short-read methods.

What OGM Detects

OGM enables genome-wide detection of structural variants with significantly higher sensitivity than Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and conventional cytogenetic methods. By imaging ultra-long DNA molecules, OGM reveals:

  • Structural variants (SVs)
  • Copy number variations (CNVs)
  • Insertions and deletions
  • Inversions and translocations
  • Repeat expansions and complex rearrangements

Workflow Overview

The OGM workflow begins with isolation of ultra-high molecular weight DNA, followed by sequence-specific labeling, high-resolution imaging, and automated bioinformatic analysis. The result is a digital genome map that enables accurate structural variant calling and intuitive data visualization in Bionano Access software.

Where OGM Makes an Impact – Related Applications

Optical Genome Mapping (OGM) is rapidly emerging as a powerful standard for comprehensive structural variant analysis in research and clinical applications across the following areas:

Cytogenomics

Transform your laboratory workflow and detect all classes of chromosomal aberrations in cancer and genetic disease cases with digital precision.

Oncology

Solve the complex biology of hematological malignancies and solid tumors by revealing structural variants traditional methods miss and create new opportunities for personalised care.

Genetic Diseases

See chromosomal aberrations with digital clarity and deliver new answers for reproductive health issues, neurodevelopmental delay and rare diseases.

Cell Bioprocessing

Enhance your quality control and ensure the genomic integrity and stability of cell lines for producer cell lines, research cell lines and cell therapy applications.

Molecular Genomics

Achieve more comprehensive structural variant profiles than sequencing alone provides and maximize pathogenic findings in your cancer and genetic disease cases.
